As a retailer, I have identified the type of shoppers who come in to my shop.
1. The Compulsive Buyer.
My favorite. Usually guys who want to buy gifts for their girlfriend or a girl they want to impress and they will ask “what is the best gift for a girl?”
Showing them an item and they will pay for it without asking for discount. Easy to appreciate.
2. The Try-All Person
Will ask and try almost everything in the shop and if you are lucky they will buy one item. This shopper is easy to spot because they usually come in pairs and will carry nothing except their handbag. They usually try and ask each other to give comments and once in a while will engage you in their conversation like “how much is this ah?”

3. The Miss-Complain All
Will come in to the shop, look around and start commenting. “your products how much ah?” Once they know the price, they will go like “Wah so expensive, why you charge so high? You know that shop that shop sell only RMxxx?” They will even give their professional opinion, “aiya this product cannot sell here one…very hard to sell, you try overseas market la” (as if they know can sell overseas…). If you don’t cut them off, they will start commenting on the music and decoration of your shop.

4. The Look Look Kind
They come, spend 1 minute looking, touching your products and walk out. All under a minute. Usually when you ask your sales assistant to assist them, they will run out quickly like they seen a ghost or something. I wonder why…

5. The Discount Kind
This one before buying anything will ask “Got discount ar?” Every single item before purchasing will definitely ask for a discount. Not too bad to handle because they will actually purchase an item. After purchasing will ask for more free gifts….

6. The Best Customer
Will come in the shop, praise the items you have, will buy some items without demanding and will actually bring their friends to visit. We have a handful of customers like this and we give them special treatment and willing to spend time getting to know them. A++ customers
7. The Big Spender
Easy to spot also, will come in the shop carrying a whole bunch of bags from other stores and this kind just love shopping! They come, they see, they ask and they buy buy buy! One even mentioned I want to spend at least RM1000 here before I go back today. Rare but are most welcomed anytime.
8. The Thief
Hard to spot. Will come in when the shop is occupied, will order a lot and once you turn your back, they are gone with the items without paying for them. Operates in a group or single. A group sometimes will try to distract you by pretending to buy a lot while another pair will slip things into their pocket.
9.The Over Friendly One
First customer then a friend. They will sit at your shop, talk with you and spend hours chatting. At first can be fun but after a while they become a leech. They think they are part of the shop and start to serve customers and even accepting money from them! Very dangerous and hard to cut off.

10. The Spy
Usually sent by other bosses to spy on your products or steal your staffs. Easy to spot cause they will ask more thorough questions like “where you get your stuff and what is your cost price ah?” or “how much your salary ar”
So which category are you in?
